Infinity Systems, Inc.

Ideas Made Real:

  • planar acoustic transducers.

About the Project:

Doug’s initial responsibilities at Infinity Systems, Inc. was to revitalize a deteriorating-quality reputation that was then plaguing the company’s market brand. This turned out to be mostly a task of defining expectations and process capabilities and getting the various parties to agree that the defined expectations were indeed reasonable and worthy of pursuit.

Doug’s ongoing interest in design led him to suggest various ways to improve the performance and reduce the cost of Infinity’s world famous planar transducers. The resultant design reduced the cost of manufacturing from $150.00 per device down to $50.00 and improved initial yields from less than 40% to virtually 100%. These were the last of any kind of planar transducer to be used by Infinity as new management chose to employ much more down market technologies.
